{celebrity look-alike}

Has anyone ever told you that you look like a celebrity?  Well, I get that a lot, but what’s funny is the variation in the celebrity they see in me.  If you ask me, I don’t resemble any of the celebrities people associate with me, but there must be a hint of truth in it, because the same names keep coming up every time I hear this.

Here are a few photos of my celebrity twins and me, for you to see for yourself…

This is me:

Twin #1 – Michelle Rodriguez

{of Fast and Furious Fame}

Well, I’ll give people one thing — we are both Puerto Rican and Dominican.

Perhaps we share similar features that are common among our people??

Twin #2 – America Ferrera

{aka Ugly Betty}

Okay, we are both Latinas too, but she is of Honduran descent (who takes on many roles as a Mexican)…both origins so far from my own heritage.

Maybe just the hair?  Mine on a good day, though..

Twin #3 – Khloe Kardashian

{famous just for being a Kardashian!}

This one is interesting, since she is not even Latina.

Again, maybe the only thing I could see is our hair is both dark, long and wavy…

Okay, here I am again.  Do you think I resemble any of my celebrity twins?

Some might be flattered by the many references, but I just find it amusing.

Maybe I’d be more excited if people said I reminded them of the Latina beauties I admire so much for their beautiful style and grace at all times…

{peachy meets beachy} our family photo shoot

A sunset family photo session at the beach?  Why, yes please.  Now… what would we wear?  Well, it shouldn’t be so formal that we can’t run around in the sand and get a little dirty.  It should be fun and reflect our personality as individuals and as one sweet family.

After trying on several different looks, I was ultra pleased that one of my favorite bright dresses finally fit again!  Victor suggested wearing his seersucker pants since they are so beachy and comfortable.  Once we figured out our outfits, I was on the hunt for the kids’ outfits.

I carried the coral and turquoise theme through, and was so happy to find Lucas such a cute onesie that matched both Victor’s and my outfits!  The girls were very happy to add one more tutu to their collection, and I’m happy I found the perfect girly and sparkly tees to match.  I found everything I needed at Target!

I also made small organza flowers for sequined headbands I also made, to add the final touch to their look.  I used sequined elastic ribbon in silver and gold for the actual headbands, and wide organza ribbon in matching silver and gold to make small flowers, following this easy tutorial via ‘go make me’ — bejewelled flowered headband/diy project’ blog post.

{what i wore} skinny jeans?!

Ok, so this time I know I’m late to the party, but I kind of don’t care.  I bought these jeans on somewhat of a whim, and was scared to even try them on, because my Latina body type is anything but skinny.  I was pleasantly surprised when I tried them on.  They are very comfortable and the nice stretchy material is VERY forgiving.  It feels like I’m wearing leggings, only nicer.

I’m glad I experimented out of my comfort zone, because this is one fad I never thought would have worked for me.  I am still a bit disappointed that I am not wearing my ideal size (aka before three children) yet, but I feel a lot better wearing clothes that fit me well, rather than trying to fit into clothes that I can’t fit into just yet, and ending up with a muffin top!

The moral of the story?  Go out of your way to try something new and unexpected from time to time.  You’ll never know if you can pull something off until you try it!

p.s. Don’t get hung up on the size you wear.  It’s nothing but a number printed on your clothes tags.  Wear the size that looks good on you, and I guarantee you will FEEL good!

{what i wore} trendy or not?

Bird Print Dress by Old Navy $30

Last week, I caught a fashion feature on one of my favorite morning shows, that was all about animal prints — not animal prints, per se, but ‘prints of animals’, as they were so quick to point out.  Wow!  What a new twist on an old concept, right?

Well, imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a very affordable version of this trend while shopping for the kiddos this past weekend at Old Navy.  Even if I had not seen the feature, I think I would have loved it anyway.  I love its proportion and the subtlety of the print, especially since I’m one of those who doesn’t do trends OR prints on a regular basis.  Having said that, I do notice an increase in polka dots in my wardrobe these past few months…perhaps that’s another trend going on, that I followed without even trying…

So, what do you think, am I ‘on trend’ or late to the party?  What recent trends have you gotten sucked into? Which do you love, which ones have you had enough of?  Would love to hear your comments!

It’s Always Sunny In Florida

It rained for a few minutes this morning, but it cleared up and the sun was shining by the time I was ready to leave for work.  Here’s to another sunny day in Florida, and me sporting another new outfit to celebrate my {new mama} status.

I loved this dress at first sight, even though it has patterns, and 95% of my clothes are solid!  The colors are so pretty, and it’s perfect for nursing since it has straps (which I’ve kept under cover with this sweet cardigan in a bright coral).  I went for comfort today and wore flat sandals in gold, and accessorized with a few touches of gold on my bracelet and necklace.  Again, my jewelry is from Stella & Dot and my shoes are from Banana Republic.

{one haute mama}

Last week, I returned to work with the sad realization that I had nothing to wear to suit my {new mama} status.  I needed clothes that would support my days of nursing Lucas at home and pumping milk on the go.  I have been lucky enough to work in a place that supports my breast feeding goals.  I had my office window covered and even got a small fridge in my private office, so I could store the milk I pump during the day.  I also ordered a hands-free busier bra to wear while pumping so I could now keep working while I pumped.

Only one obstacle remained–my current wardrobe was not very nursing-friendly.  I now needed tops and dresses I could pull down, lift up, pull aside, or unbutton easily.  I went on a small shopping spree with a budget of $200 and came home with 7 new pieces that I think will get me through work days and weekends for a while.  This was easy once I discovered the MNG by Mango collection at JC Penney.  Every item I purchased was under $50 and I got a 20% discount too!  The collection features many items that can easily transition between work and the weekend.

I wanted to share my new wardrobe here for other new mamas.  Here’s what I wore to work today, featuring a new blouse.  Since summer dress code in my office is casual, I paired it with dark denim jeans by Banana Republic and jazzed it all up with a gold links bracelet and a gold bee pendant necklace from my days of selling Stella & Dot.  You can’t really see my shoes, but I’m wearing strappy metallic heels that are actually very comfortable.

MNG Blouse $40

Hoping I’ve inspired other haute mamas!

{Happy shopping!}
